Keynote speakers who are practising and / or researching at the cutting edge of design will be invited to share their experiences. More details to follow.

Debates will complement the traditional keynote format with a curated track of discussions that focus on debating and discussing design issues that are defining design now and into the near future. At the conference, each Debate session will include multiple speakers from the fields of design practice and research.

Conversations is the DRS format for sessions conceived as alternatives to the traditional paper/presentation format, with the ambition of providing innovative venues for project-based research and work that is not easily captured or conveyed by the scholarly paper. Conversations can be structured discussions, and experimental session formats that advance conversation around emergent forms of design research.

Papers are peer-reviewed research contributions selected by the scientific committee on basis of relevance to the conference, originality of the research put forward, quality and rigour of research and clarity of presentation. Papers are published in the conference proceedings and presented during the paper sessions of the conference.

Workshops sessions aim to advance existing and emerging areas of design research as a complement to the formats of the main conference program. They allow workshop organisers more freedom, space and time to stage structured discussions and collaborative processes, and to use more unconventional and experimental session formats.

PhD by Design

The PhD by Design event is intended for PhD students at the start, middle or towards the end of their doctoral research to equitably explore and exchange ideas on design research. As the pre-conference program, it provides an opportunity for participating doctoral students to share their research ideas and approaches with other students and academics and obtain feedback from advisory experts with different perspectives.
