Code of Conduct

All attendees, speakers, sponsors, and volunteers for DRS2018 are required to agree to the event code of conduct. Organisers will enforce this code throughout the event. We are expecting cooperation from all delegates to establish a safe environment for all.

DRS2018 is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue, including keynotes, debates, presentations, conversations, workshops, PhD by Design, breaks, lunches, dinner, and online or social media.  Conference delegates violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organisers.

Be kind to others.
Do not insult or put down other attendees.
Behave professionally.

Remember that harassment and sexist, racist, or exclusionary jokes are not appropriate at DRS2018. Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of any DRS2018 events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Delegates who are asked to stop any harassing behaviour, are expected to comply with this request immediately.

Sponsors and exhibitors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, exhibitors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material. Registration staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualized environment. Be careful in the words that you choose. Remember that sexist, racist, and other exclusionary jokes can be offensive to those around you. Excessive swearing and offensive jokes are not appropriate at the DRS2018 conference. Delegates violating these rules may be sanctioned or asked to leave the event (without a refund) at the discretion of the event organisers. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a DRS2018 Volunteer immediately. Conference volunteers can be identified as they'll be wearing branded volunteer t-shirts, and Conference Organisers will be wearing gold coloured University of Limerick lapel badges. DRS2018 Committee members will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance. We expect participants to follow these rules at all conference venues and conference-related social events. Thank you for helping make this a welcoming, friendly event for all.
